Shakespeare in the Park

We went to Shakespeare in the Park with Jan and Julie last night. The weather was perfect and we found a great spot to sit (this is our view of the stage).  They are doing Othello this year and the production was really well done.
Ben had a good look through the program before it started!!!!
They both did really well.  Ben watched the whole thing and really enjoyed it, Maggie slept through most of the second act!!!!

Maggie's 8th birthday

Maggie turned 8 on Tuesday. We did our usual routine, we ate at Mongolian Grill. Jan & Julie met us there, and Arline came with us this time too. Maggie didn't really eat much at all. She may have been too excited, or just not feeling that great. She's been off all week.
When we got home, Maggie opened her presents.  I think she had a pretty good birthday.

Maggie's birthday party

Our "baby" turns 8 today. She had a birthday party at Monkey Joe's on Sunday. Boy, it was expensive, but it's the first party we have ever had for her. She was so excited to go there and be the center of attention.
The kids got to jump in the bounce houses before the party. Ben had them all organized of course and they played a marathon game of Egyptian mummies for some reason. Here they are all lying in a row on the floor. Funny-the boy in the middle isn't even at Maggie's party!!!!

After their jumping session, we had cake in a party room.  Maggie got to sit in the big Monkey Joe chair-it was a miracle she didn't fall out of it with all the jumping around she was doing!!!!  Monkey Joe came in to sing Happy Birthday with all the kids.  Maggie loves Monkey Joe!!!

Maggie looks very pleased with herself.....

Our garden at the school

We have a garden going at the school again this year. We did it with the Girl Scouts and let the girls plant seeds earlier this year. We hadn't looked at it in a while and Ben suggested that we went up to the school yesterday. Things are growing like crazy. We had a bunch of peas that were ready and I ate a mountain of them right out of the pods. It takes me back to when we were little and used to sit outside and shell peas for dinner. Dad called them punkle-up peas and they will always be that to me!!!

We have some great broccoli growing and these huge plants around the outside that we have no idea what they are or who put them there!!! Shauna-you'll know. I suspect they are okra or sunflowers

Science Experiments on the porch.....

Ben decided to get the chairs out on the porch yesterday and do science experiments with ice cubes.  Now, according to Ben, Albert Einstein said it takes two ice cubes to confuse another cube by one degree. Once an ice cube dies it gets replaced but we're not ice cubes....
I really don't know where he comes up with this stuff.  He takes science words and just jumbles them up into whatever sounds good to him!!!!  He spent ages letting ice cubes melt and watching what patterns the water made.  He did make some very interesting observations though.

We had a wine tasting party at our house afterwards.  It was another example of how different Ben & Maggie can be.  Ben was right in the middle of everything and Maggie stayed in the basement watching TV the whole time.  In fact, at one time Ben went to take Maggie's temperature and one of the people here thought he was talking about one of the cats!!!!

Enterprise family day

I took Ben and Maggie to the Enterprise family day, even though Sam wasn't with us. The kids are really very different. After they both rode the bull, they went in completely different directions. Maggie wanted to do the bungee cord jumping and was very willing to wait in line to do it.  Then she wanted to do the rapelling on the wall.
Ben wanted to do the wax hand thing and then get a balloon and his face painted.

Maggie was not well yesterday. I got her some macaroni and cheese for lunch and she just sat there and looked at it - a sure sign that something was not right. We decided to leave early and she took a nap. Her temperature was 102, but didn't last long and went back to normal after some ibuprofen.....

Circus Flora

We went to opening night at Circus Flora last night. It was the best show we've seen in several years, if not ever. They did a phenomenal job and the kids enjoyed it immensely. It never ceases to amaze me how talented some people are and it's great to see so many local people performing
Ben and Maggie especially loved the circus food!!!!  True to form, when I wanted to take a picture, they had to swap their food....
