Art in Bloom at the Art Museum

We went to Art in Bloom at the Art Museum on Sunday afternoon. We had never been before, but I had seen Arline had been on Friday night (FaceBook) and her pictures looked great.  The idea is that local arrangers choose a piece of art and recreate in flowers.
Maggie standing in front of an arrangement in the hall
Lots of callas in the arrangements, so of course I was going to like it!!
I always love asters
You can see the art in the background of this one.  I'm not a huge fan of modern art, but it definitely lends itself well to floral arrangements
This one is a favourite because it really was like the art
One of the arrangers explaining her piece
This one was the only one with a line to get into the room to see it.  So, I got what I could from outside

The artist gave a really good explanation about this one.  The thorns came from Nazareth

Quilt
This is a lady's head, but I didn't notice the painting
I loved this one
Very simple, with those lovely little orchids

Busy weekend

The kids had a 4 day weekend for Presidents' Day, so I stayed home with them on Friday.  We had beautiful weather the whole time.  I had to take my car to Honda and so we were stuck at home on Friday.  The kids made the most of the sunshine-Ben sat on the new steps
Maggie played dead on the patio.....
We met Caroline for lunch.  This was the first time we had seen her this year!!!!  I had this Cobb salad for lunch since we went to Half and Half and I was avoiding all the starchy goodies!!!!
Sam and I went to Leeny's party on Friday night to celebrate the end of the Paleo Challenge
Lazy Saturday morning-cats love it when we are just sitting around
We went to St Charles with June and Maddie on Saturday afternoon and had a great time wandering around the new shops.  They have had quite a turnover since we were last there
We went to the SLU women's basketball game on Saturday night.  Jan and Julie came with us
I felt like we were running around all weekend.  I told Sam it's because we actually had a life and went out on both Friday and Saturday nights!!!!

A few pics of the orchid show-enjoy......

February visit to MBG

We had yet another beautiful day for our visit to MBG.  It was close to 70 and a little cloudy.  We even ate lunch outside!!!  There wasn't much blooming, but these Chinese witch hazels were in their prime
We went into the Climatron to see if they had added any of the glass for the exhibit yet-they hadn't.  We did see a few things in bloom though, including these.....
The waterfall is always lovely
So glad they kept this Chihuly glass
Chocolate anyone???!!!!!
Look how spectacular this tree is in winter...
You can see how cloudy it was, but still beautiful day and so warm for February

Life in the U.S. now.....

Me (to Maggie): Don't buy those marshmallows, too much sugar
Man in Schnucks: Where is your accent from?
Me: England
Man in Schnucks: I hope you are here legally
Me: Actually I'm a US citizen
Man in Schnucks: Good, because apparently we care about that now.....

I'm lucky that I am not threatened by encounters like that but empathize with those who are.....

Update on construction

I took some pictures of the extension the other day. I was brave enough to climb up the ladder and go into our new bedroom.  This will be our new bathroom
Switch for our bedroom mounted by where the closets will be-electricians have been busy!!!
Sam standing in our new bedroom.  Three big windows on the back, there will be two small windows on each of the east and west sides
Look how full the dumpster is!!!!
The sitting room downstairs, full of contractor's stuff
Water pipes for the new bathroom are going up the back wall
Pipes for the air conditioner
They are building a new back wall in the sitting room, so we will lose about 4-6 inches, but we will never notice.  Plus, we are getting rid of the window into the kitchen
Things are moving along.....
