Maggie's birthday party

Our "baby" turns 8 today. She had a birthday party at Monkey Joe's on Sunday. Boy, it was expensive, but it's the first party we have ever had for her. She was so excited to go there and be the center of attention.
The kids got to jump in the bounce houses before the party. Ben had them all organized of course and they played a marathon game of Egyptian mummies for some reason. Here they are all lying in a row on the floor. Funny-the boy in the middle isn't even at Maggie's party!!!!

After their jumping session, we had cake in a party room.  Maggie got to sit in the big Monkey Joe chair-it was a miracle she didn't fall out of it with all the jumping around she was doing!!!!  Monkey Joe came in to sing Happy Birthday with all the kids.  Maggie loves Monkey Joe!!!

Maggie looks very pleased with herself.....

Our garden at the school

We have a garden going at the school again this year. We did it with the Girl Scouts and let the girls plant seeds earlier this year. We hadn't looked at it in a while and Ben suggested that we went up to the school yesterday. Things are growing like crazy. We had a bunch of peas that were ready and I ate a mountain of them right out of the pods. It takes me back to when we were little and used to sit outside and shell peas for dinner. Dad called them punkle-up peas and they will always be that to me!!!

We have some great broccoli growing and these huge plants around the outside that we have no idea what they are or who put them there!!! Shauna-you'll know. I suspect they are okra or sunflowers

Science Experiments on the porch.....

Ben decided to get the chairs out on the porch yesterday and do science experiments with ice cubes.  Now, according to Ben, Albert Einstein said it takes two ice cubes to confuse another cube by one degree. Once an ice cube dies it gets replaced but we're not ice cubes....
I really don't know where he comes up with this stuff.  He takes science words and just jumbles them up into whatever sounds good to him!!!!  He spent ages letting ice cubes melt and watching what patterns the water made.  He did make some very interesting observations though.

We had a wine tasting party at our house afterwards.  It was another example of how different Ben & Maggie can be.  Ben was right in the middle of everything and Maggie stayed in the basement watching TV the whole time.  In fact, at one time Ben went to take Maggie's temperature and one of the people here thought he was talking about one of the cats!!!!

Enterprise family day

I took Ben and Maggie to the Enterprise family day, even though Sam wasn't with us. The kids are really very different. After they both rode the bull, they went in completely different directions. Maggie wanted to do the bungee cord jumping and was very willing to wait in line to do it.  Then she wanted to do the rapelling on the wall.
Ben wanted to do the wax hand thing and then get a balloon and his face painted.

Maggie was not well yesterday. I got her some macaroni and cheese for lunch and she just sat there and looked at it - a sure sign that something was not right. We decided to leave early and she took a nap. Her temperature was 102, but didn't last long and went back to normal after some ibuprofen.....

Circus Flora

We went to opening night at Circus Flora last night. It was the best show we've seen in several years, if not ever. They did a phenomenal job and the kids enjoyed it immensely. It never ceases to amaze me how talented some people are and it's great to see so many local people performing
Ben and Maggie especially loved the circus food!!!!  True to form, when I wanted to take a picture, they had to swap their food....

Nails!!!!

Further to the Maggie melt-down about getting her nails painted yesterday, I told her that I had some nail polish at home that I could use to paint her nails.  It was in something Ben won at Hudson and was bright orange!!!  She would not be swayed and I finally painted her nails for her.  She was so excited.  I'm sure she has chewed most of it off in the night though!!!
When did she get to be so girlie overnight????

Maggie Tales

Maggie's latest obsession is KitKat, although when I think about it, it's been an obsession for a long time.... We used to share them but I haven't had any at all this year. Every time we go to Target or the grocery store, she wants to buy one. Now that Summer is here, she has to eat them really quickly before they melt. Well, that never poses a problem. She can eat one in a few seconds, the problem is cleaning her up afterwards... I told her no more KitKats until the Winter!!!!
When we were in Target, I told Maggie that she needed to get some shoes that she can slip on or off in the Summer.  She found some knock-off crocs in there that she was pretty happy with.  Ben found these flip-flops and she agreed to try them on and even to buy them.  She's been flip-flopping around ever since!!!!
When she got home, she put them on and I said "oh, Maggie, they are so cute".   Ben came running over and gave her a big hug and said "at last, I have my little sister!!!" Maggie just looked at him and said "I don't care what you say, if you buy me make up for my birthday, I STILL WON'T wear it!!!"
Later, Ben was in the mud room playing his recorder and Maggie went storming across the house to him and said "Ben, sometimes you are really annoying. But you know that anyway, don't you?" Finally, I picked Maggie up from her first day of Adventure Club. Now, she usually sulks all the way to the car anyway, but today she was sulking because I wouldn't let her stay so she could get her nails painted. What on earth is going on???!!!!
