Maggie's Girl Scout troop sold 1200 boxes of cookies this year. I volunteered to be the cookie manager again this year and we picked them up from the distribution point yesterday. Amazingly, they fitted in two cars, but they were pretty full. I can attest to the fact that when a case hits the back of your head when you brake, it's pretty painful!!!! No I just have to distribute them to the girls, hope the numbers are right and that we have the correct amount of money at the end of the day.....

It's about time for some new conversations.....
I haven't reported any great conversations recently, but of course they are constantly going on. Sam sent me a couple of good ones this morning-his day evidently started off by being highly entertained with the family interaction. I told Sam they were worthy of being posted on Facebook, but unfortunately, Ben's getting too old to appreciate how great they are and would be embarrassed if his friends saw them. So, here they are....
Quote Of The Day #1: (Ben) my army is assembled and I'm attacking! I'm defeating the enemy!!!
(Maggie) wow, they must really suck....
Quote Of The Day #2: (Sam): Ben, go get your things organized to travel.
(Ben): I know what I need. I'll do it after school.
(Sam): that might be the biggest pile of BS you've ever tossed at me.
(Ben): no, I'm sure I've thrown more....

This is how cold it was in Chicago.....
After having a great weekend in Chicago, the kids and I agreed that Chicago is fun but we don't want to live there!!! I could not stand fighting all that traffic or crowds to get to work every day more than anything. Yes, the City is great, it's fun to walk around in, the lake was cool (although I suspect much more fun when it isn't frozen) and there is plenty to do there. However, more than anything, I would NOT want to live in a City with signs like this on the streets......
This was the view from our hotel window, you can see the frozen lake if you look between the buildings....
It was so cold that we only went out walking once, everywhere is covered in frozen snow. This is the walk down to the lake
This sign says something about the beach. Beach???!!!!!
We went to Shedd aquarium on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it was only 20 degrees and we had to queue for 2 hours to get in. We were absolutely frozen. Maggie and I waited in the building after an hour or so, but Ben and Sam were out in the cold the whole time. This was our view of the skyline while we waited
Ben and Maggie loved skating on this ice that we found in an underpass
Our hotel had a pool, this is it. You can imagine the kids' disgust when they found out that the pool was outside!!!!Friday, February 21, 2014
Great Western Invitational 2014
Ben had a good meet. Came first in the all-around, first in 4 events and second in the other 2
Lots of hardware to bring home. He got the team trophy too
Travis wearing "the hat"!!!!!
Random Maggie and Ben photos from Chicago
Ben and Maggie's first trip on a US train (actually, mine too!). They were so excited
Ben got this sweatshirt at the meet, I think it is really cool
Ben and Maggie with their new friend at Shedd aquarium
Maggie standing on the ice on Lake Michigan. She wasn't likely to fall through, it was 4 feet thick!!!!
We found a Lavazza coffee shop. It is our absolute favourite coffee and lived up to our expectionsBen and Maggie with their new friend at Shedd aquarium
They had reached a truce by the time we came back and sat together on the train!!!!
Photos from the train....
I took a bunch of photos when we were on the train going to Chicago this past weekend. I think the best one is this-I took it as we were going over the bridge into East St. Louis on Friday morning. It's a barge ploughing its way through the ice on the Mississippi
There was snow and ice everywhere that we stopped. The amount of the ice on the track at Union Station was a little troubling, made me wonder how the trains stay on the rails!!!!

This was Springfield on the way back-still snowing, still icy
Then, when we got back to St. Louis, it was a pretty nice day and not any ice on the river!!!!!Thursday, February 20, 2014
