Maggie's school meeting

We had out first official meeting at school for Maggie this past week. The school had called us initially because they were concerned that she wasn't progressing as they thought that she should. Clearly, she is functioning at way below the bottom 10th percentile when compared to the other kids in her class. We met with 9 staff from the school to discuss everything. It's hard to believe that there would be that many people focusing on one little girl. We went through the assessments and talked about the extra help that Maggie has been getting. She is definitely progressing and doing much better than she was. Apparently, it took her quite a while to settle down into the routine of school, but she does not cause any trouble and tries very hard. Her teacher said she can be loud at times, but that is not news to us. We agreed that they would continue to work with her in small groups on word and number recognition. It is hard for me to get too worried at this stage as Ben was so far behind when he went into 1st grade and Daniel was nowhere near her ability in kindergarten. Hopefully she will improve enough that they will let her move on to 1st grade next year. If they don't, it won't be too much of a loss as she's so young for the school year anyway. She has such a great personality that everybody loves working with her, which is a huge plus for all of us.
