Delmar Loop Ice Carnival

We went to the Ice Carnival yesterday, we haven't been there since Ben and Maggie were little-maybe 4 or 5 years. Actually, we usually forget about it every year and only knew about it because my graduate student's boyfriend works for the ice company!! Lucky for us. Unfortunately, it was 60 yesterday, the warmest it's ever been for the carnival.

The sculptures on the south side were out of the sun and didn't do too badly, but the ones facing the sun cracked very quickly. This was the first one we saw and it was one of the best because of the colour in the middle of it

They had 1000 ice cubes with dollar coins in the middle and 9000 with chocolate coins in the middle. The kids were lucky enough that they got a dollar coin and 3 chocolate coins. Very good, considering how many people were there

They were making s'mores at Craft Alliance. Ben said this trash can looked like art-we called it "Trash Art"!!!!!

More doctor appointments

Ben and I had another full day of doctor visits on Friday. I took him to see the allergist on Friday morning. He said he is doing better and was better when he was out of school for winter break rather than in the school building. The doctor increased his antihistamine dose to see if it helps him and advised against doing immunotherapy-I didn't realize he would have to have injections every week for a year and monthly for 5 years (and then it might stop working if you stop).
We went back to Cardinal Glennon on Friday afternoon to see about his shoulder. They took an Xray and said it may just be muscle strain. He seems to be doing much better and is even talking about going back to gymnastics meet again.
It seems like we are always at the doctors these days, hopefully Ben will do better before too long....

Science Center and City Museum outings

We did 3 more trips before everyone went back to work/school. The first was to the Science Center. Ben had been wanting to go to the Sherlock Holmes exhibition and I had found a Groupon for it plus the Omnimax show. It turned out to be not that great a bargain because they had a special going on, but we did get free parking, so it was worth it. Unfortunately, it was packed on the day we went. We waited over an hour and a half to get into the exhibit and then we had less than an hour to stay there before the Omnimax show. It was such a shame because it was a fantastic exhibit and we could have easily spent 2-3 times as much time in there as we did. It was also so overcrowded that it was hard to see or do any of it. If it wasn't closed now, I would definitely go back and see it again. We did get a funky photo from it though!!!!

We went to the City Museum twice over the break. I was trying to use up the entrances on our membership, but just could not do it. We definitely got our money's worth out of it, but could have done better. I did take the opportunity to run by and see the City Museum cake again, they have moved it up to the 4th floor.

We took Emilee with us to the City Museum, she is a friend of Ben's (she's at Hixson with him and her brother was on his gymnastics unsanctioned team). She gets along very well with Maggie too.

You can see that when they stop running around like crazy, they have to immediately check their phones. Modern living.....

Cakes at Media Commons #3

Le Grange de Terre (Big Mound) was once the site of the largest Mississippian Culture Indian mounds in St. Louis that was dismantled in 1868. I wish we had seen this one at the original site. This is our # 129.

Cakes at Media Commons #1

OK, bit of a cheat today because we went to Media Commons, where they had 36 cakes out for First Night in Grand Center. I dragged the kids down there on the way to the City Museum. I took so many photos that I have uploaded in 3 separate blog entries!!! It'll probably take me a while to figure out what they all are, but here goes........

First of all, Maggie's excitement at finding the Nine Network cake. This is our #120 and was still at the original site outside Channel 9

We had not got this one, so this is our # 121. St. Louis Children's Hospital, the oldest pediatric hospital west of the Mississippi. I had planned on doing CWE, but we ran out of time.
