Mum of the year award

Sam is out of town, so all organization has fallen apart.  Maggie was asking me what was for dinner and I told her I had no idea.
Maggie:  Wait, can I make eggs?
Me:  Maggie, you had eggs for breakfast.  But, guess what, here's the last box of macaroni and cheese.
Maggie:  What? Are you saying I can have it?
Me:  Yes, Maggie you can have it.
Maggie:  Oh, Mum, I love you so much, I can't stand it......

Storms!!!

We had a series of huge thunderstorms come through today.  Along with the huge hail, this tree came down on the house next to the church and across the road from us.  Luckily, it looks like there may not be much damage done to the house even though it looks like it broke the tree in several places!!!

Breakfast....

Ben got up this morning and made this breakfast for Maggie.  Then he served it up to her in from of the TV, along with a glass of orange juice.  I told Maggie she was spoiled, BIG TIME!!!!

Oh boy......

Well, it's official, we are getting an exchange student next school year.  We are definitely going to be in trouble, she is beautiful and 15 years old.  Ben is going to go crazy over her!!!!  She is from Lithuania and I don't know anything about that Country, so it will be interesting to find out all about her and life in Lithuania.

Rock climbing-Ben's 11th birthday

Took Ben to Upper Limits rock climbing for his birthday. We had 7 kids with us. I got the birthday package since you can take up to 8 kids and get 2 hours of climbing, plus harnesses etc. We had someone helping the whole time too. It was a great event, the kids really liked it.

Ben was magnanimous enough to ask one of Maggie's friends to the party, I suspect it was to keep Maggie occupied.  Those girls never stopped climbing the whole time, don't know where they got the energy from!!!

Of course, the boys had to make a competition out of climbing after a while and they had me timing how long it took them to climb to the top.

We had drinks, chips and cake after climbing.  The kids had a lot of fun watching the adults...

Sam's first duathlon

Sam did the Eads Bridge Duathlon yesterday. It was run 1.5 miles, bike 10 miles, run 1.5 miles.  Took him 1 hr 6 mins and he did the whole thing in the rain!!!!  This picture was taken BEFORE the event!!!!

Conversations

Ben wanted to go to the Kolache Factory in the morning.  I told him it was getting late and that there would be no cinnamon twists left, but he insisted we try. When we got there, there were plenty left.  Ben said "oh, I knew there would be some, this morning I asked the Magic 8 Ball if there would be any cinnamon twists and it said "Certainly" and there they are"

Maggie, Ben and I were walking into Whole Foods through the rain today
Maggie: Mum, I'm getting wet
Me: I know. It's a good job we're not made of sugar or we would melt. No worries, no one in our family is that sweet.
Maggie: We're not made of sugar. We're made of MEAT. Mrs Foley told me that.

As we were driving in the car, Ben suddenly said: "Mum, why did you cut all the sleeves out of my T shirts?"
Me:  What do you mean?
Ben:  When I went in my drawer this morning, all my shirts had the arms cut out
Me:  Oh, I just found some of your Summer shirts and washed them and put them in your drawer.  They are supposed to be for when it's really hot.  They are made that way
Ben:  Oh, well now my drawer is a complete mess cos I had to fish them all out to find one with sleeves....
